Introduction to Dr. Pettey
Introduction to Dr. Pettey's Substack publications on leadership.
I am a leadership scholar (Ed.D. in Organization and Leadership) and consultant, human relations commissioner, and a former organizational development/diversity, equity, and inclusion manager (the title was a lot shorter though).
My intent with this newsletter is to increase personal and organizational knowledge about leadership: what is leadership, why is leadership important, and how does leadership operate. I primarily write towards emerging leaders and organizations who have a passion for a better future, through bite sized conversations about leadership: Definitions and explanations of leadership theories, how theories and myths privilege some and suppress others, and where leadership exists and why context is important.
If you ask someone on the street if they’re organization, our society, or the world is on the right track — regardless what that “right track” is — they will likely answer “no”, and if you continue that conversation to the question of why, they likely will cite failures in leadership (this is not a new phenomenon). However, there are diminishing opportunities for emerging people and organizations to learn what good leadership is and how to build good leadership. The reason why I do this work, is to provide leadership knowledge and learning opportunities to budding leaders and organizations who have a passion for a better future.
I hope you find my writing useful as you navigate personal and professional growth.
